Well it went better than I thought it would and I really liked the ending too. I won't give it a four star rating because I can't seem to forget the boredom at the beginning of the book. The main character Grace is always questioning and commenting everything and it was really annoying. I had to skip some parts to be able to continue reading 'till the end and it kind of me made me lose interest some times. After the exhausting dessication of her relationship with Mark though...it does become quite interesting and enjoyable. I liked Tom very much and couldn't really blame her for cheating on Mark with him either because Mark really pushed all my buttons pretty thoroughly. Most of all I simply relished Grace's happy ending.

Not much my style. Kind of boring at first, lots of explanations and way too much telling and not showing. My heart simply wasn't in it. I skimmed a lot. The plot was interesting but didn't grip me. I don't know for sure what I disliked about it all...maybe I simply don't care to know the inner workings of a café or something. The romantic interest for the main character didn't impress me much either. Overall I think the story came pretty much out of nowhere and I felt as lost as the woman from the story when she suddenly owns a café and finds she needs to cook with magic even if she doesn't know how.

Very entertaining and funny. Super light romance comedy. Lots of witty remarks. Flash love/relationship but apparently it was building for quite some time so it wasn't so bad. It was very well written and a really nice read. Totally worth my time.

Ok, so now she wants to resurrect her mother and aunt. Can't say I'm surprised, not really. What does surprise me is her constant willingness to jump into dangerous situations without a second thought when she was tortured for days just a while ago. Oh and the fact that she almost always gets herself and her friends killed really should put a damper on her bold plans but nope...she's going full out, again! Yeah. Try not to lose your leg this time ok?

But I gotta say that's not the most disturbing part...no. The worst part was the torture. Yes. It was in her hellement so it didn't really happen, it was all in her head but for me it was still traumatizing as hell! I really hated that part of the book. I hate stuff like that...I mean I can handle it. I've seen some pretty grotesque stuff on TV and I'm not squeamish or anything but I have a really hard time seeing violence between people. I mostly ignored that part of the book...Apart from that I kind of liked it. It was more dark and somber than the previous ones but it was still enjoyable. Do prepare yourself for blood, entrails and brain matter.

That ending was kind of WHAT? But I really liked the book overall. It would have been really painful for me to wait to read the next book but fortunately I won't have to. It was a really messed up cliffhanger.
Anyway...This book is interesting but not much in itself. Not a good read as a standalone for sure. The story picks up right after the end of the first instalment and ends abruptly. I'm guessing it's just the middle piece of the main plot and didn't bother me much but I can see people not liking it much.

Review: Creatures of Fire

I'd like to start this review by stating that I feel a little miffed for not being informed this was a series and not a standalone. Having that said...I'm happy for having read it.

Overall the book was enjoyable with some interesting aspects like the world building and the demons. The writing was somewhat difficult to follow and I had some trouble concentrating. Huh. What am I saying? Most of it was just aggravating! The characters, for instance, weren't very likeable either. Sariel was particularly annoying some times, super naive and a little whiny. Alexander didn't do much for me but Tamiro sounded awesome. I really liked reading about him but I kinda missed the romance. I was always hoping for a little something to happen. Loved all the action though. That's what I mostly enjoyed. For me, it totally saved this book.

Meh. I can't say I particularly liked this ending. The lines keep blurring more and more, Ian was murdered and Bonnie ended up promising her first child to a dragon for money. I keep expecting stuff to finally make sense but so far...no such luck. I really hated Ian's death. Not only because I absolutely loved him but mostly because it was such a stupid death. I am not a happy camper after this! If there is another book coming...I'm not sure I'll read it.

So...What do I have to say about this one? Not much. It's mainly like the previous ones except for an upgrade in intensity and complexity. Grey seems to be the new colour for the team. There were some actions morally questionable but I don't see how the situation could've been handled better. The new character seems like a good addiction but wasn't much visible, more like a needed piece of furniture than an actual character. Romantically it was more charged than usual but contrary to the other books it was actually dealt with tenacity and maturity this time. I honestly hope to be blown away in the final book though.

Well the whole Bonnie/Venec thing was less annoying. Still completely idiotic though, specially now that they seem to have merged, whatever that means, and can't seem to help wanting each other passionately and repeatedly without actually doing anything at all about it. It's not that I don't particularly like Venec...I guess I just don't get it. Pietr seems to spark a lot more curiosity for me. The main plot, however, seems to be coming along interestingly enough. The characters are being presented more three-dimensionally and the world is definitely better built without the nagging feel there's something the reader isn't privy to constantly creeping up. A lot of boring stuff still present though...All procedural crap and annoying side explanations the main character seems to like to spout in the middle of a conversation. Curious enough to continue. Hope it gets better.

It was a solid first instalment but it sure as hell didn't blow my mind or anything like it. There were boring parts, mostly related to procedural stuff and even some parts I didn't particularly cared to know. It had a lot of fluff around the main plot and managed to distract me enough from it to actually upset me a little. This book was mostly getting to know the characters and how they worked together than solving the first case they had between hands. You also don't get much of an ending to the case, simply kind of hit a dead end. The characters were interesting though. What mostly bugs me is the instant attraction between Venec and Bonnie, so damn cliché it makes my teeth ache. She can even barely think near him and it's so predictable! I wish she could see his good looks but kind of detach herself from it when needed and currently she can't, she just sort of wanders in her own head whenever he's near. Kind of idiotic of her and extremely disappointing for me as a reader. I don't expect her to be perfect but a little more hormonal control wouldn't be bad besides there seems to be other options and she can't even consider them because he's all she sees.

Oh wow. I absolutely loved all of it. Great writing. Some errors but nothing to be worked up about. Lovely characters and although I would have liked them to be with his family because I enjoyed all of them I am glad they got away from all the violence. I am also curious about Ramsey, the brooding warrior. I wonder if Alaxandar's sister managed to tame him...Oh well. Wonderful ending anyway. Truly sweet and romantic!

What can I say? I liked it a lot. It reads much like those little romance novels by Harlequin people, like my mom, buy on supermarkets but bigger and better developed. It's very sweet and cute. All full of romantic acts and claims of love and desire between the main characters. I have to admit it's one my hidden pleasures. I just can't help gobble them all up..There's a bit of violence but nothing much, just enough to keep things interesting. I don't particularly like reading about clamps, cuffs or any kind of restraints in sex but it seemed to work for the couple so I mostly ignored it. NO BDSM. Just kinky sex I guess but nothing too aggressive or submissive. I particularly look forward for Nikolai's story. He seemed very mysterious, complex and dangerous. My kind of guy.

Review: Second Chances

Very sweet and romantic. I absolutely loved the writing and the plot is amazing. I bawled my eyes out when Brian died and seeing Antonio and Mark together was simply beautiful and a really wonderful love story. Robbie and Jason were very cute together and I really liked knowing they married. Overall it was a real little piece of heaven wrapped in a pink bow for my pleasure. Of course being mostly about gay men it's not for everyone but for those who don't care about gender regarding love I absolutely recommend this book!

At first I had a really hard time liking Jack. He was obnoxious and irritated the hell out of me. His ideas about women must've surely come from the sixteenth century and if it wasn't the fact he started admiring the heroine I would've given up completing this book. However he did change and I gotta admit she did some pretty crazy decisions that would have gotten her killed without Jack. I enjoyed the action immensely and I love reading through a character's emotional growth...but it sort of drags on for me. I wouldn't have missed half the book. Some turns of plot were too complex and idiotic.

I would have called it perfect if Kel hadn't died. I understand why he did but I had hoped he would have time to find some small happiness before finally dyeing. I ultimately started to like Chance and am happy he was able to return but I have always liked Kel better. I don't know it it's just the allure of greatness or of forbidden love but Kel always pulled my heartstrings better than any other character in this book. And he loved Corine. They had such little time together yet he loved her more than life itself. Yes, I am aware Chance gave up his life and even becoming a god for Corine but I really can't help preferring Kel over Chance. Of course I know it would make more sense for it to be Chance. The author also solved the issues with his luck pretty neatly. Corine's sacrifice also left her human and normal just like she always wanted. Can't say I would have made a better job of it myself. I'll always miss Kelethiel though.

It was insightful but mostly just disgusting. I liked Grey though. His death upset me a little and then Chance's...I cried. I fully admit it. I have no idea where the next book is going but I intend to find out for sure!

Better than the first. More whole. I specially liked the main character's new found backbone and the background I've desired since the beginning of this story. I also loved the girl, Shannon and her decision about Chance. Shannon gave a whole new side and heart to it, made it focus on the human side of things instead of only focusing on Corinne's vengeance. And Chance's road was kind of doomed for me when she explained the repercussions about being with him...I can't say I would have made a difference decision. It was time for her to choose the healthiest way for her. No matter how much she loves Chance he simply isn't good for her and it was about time she understood. It was actually painful to watch them together, trying to be better to each other. It should have been effortless or at least painlessly and it wasn't.

The demon was creepy and it's definitely going to come back and bite her in the ass! I wouldn't look forward for that confrontation. I am curious though.

I also have to admit I had a hard time reading this...it's a very heavy reading, it took more time that I usually take in a book. Maybe it was just me though.

It's a very fast-paced story, very sweet and romantic with a HEA type of ending. The characters are interesting and very easy to like.

Review: Graveyard Shift

I give props for the totally incredible new world presented in this book. Think Greek gods, Egyptians, deities, angels and so on, all living in some kind of another dimension with Limbo in the middle as a safe port to everyone where reapers are little more than slaves and souls are the coin.

Our main character, Lana is a reaper and a not very good one because she often bends the rules to help souls. Suddenly she receives a promotion which is little more than a veiled death sentence though she doesn't know at the time. I'd like to say I like her but she doesn't do much for me. I admit I get a headache just trying to follow her life around not to mention I don't really like to read how much little power she has over her own life. She is dropped in a political jungle she has no way of getting out or manoeuvre.

Her romantic life is pretty unexistent even after finding herself a boyfriend, one I gotta say I don't trust one bit, too damn convenient for my taste, he starts up as a cocky and arrogant guy who can't stop flirting with her to a shy guy who blushes every time she looks at him. If that's not weird, I don't know what is. Besides we never actually get to watch them together and no, I'm not talking just about sex. The author seems to run as fast as a gazelle every time there is a chance at intimacy.

It seems to be interesting enough for me to read the next one but can't be sure of more. It's too dried to hold my attention for long. The plot seems way too complex and convoluted for a first instalment. The characters need to be more fleshed out, more humane and a little more witty. They all seem to get incredibly boring sometimes. Not to mention the cheer number of characters is staggering. I can't even remember a third of them.

Now wasn't that just bloody perfect? And I really do mean bloody although I have to agree with Lucifer that it wasn't much of a fight...I expected better from Lilith. More thunder and stuff, I don't know. Poor Lilith. I don't think she fought much because she expected her immortality to save her, I think if she had known Muriel's plan she would have screamed and scratched her way to freedom.
One disappointing fact was the vampire, or better, the lack of more regarding him. I would have liked to have known him better just like we did with Auric and David. The same for Lucinda. She was safe and powerful, that's all we get. A perfect little princess ending though. A pink bow would've been the cherry on the top of Muriel's cake for sure!

Can't say it's better than the first instalment, in fact it doesn't seem to have evolved much from book one to two. Like the first, it's entertaining but it still lacks something. Gia and Daven were seriously creepy and I wasn't particularly interested in their story. Tiff (horrible name by the way) continues to be naive and not much to look at and I don't mean physically. Royal seems sweet but it's all on paper, he doesn't feel like a real person like he should feel. Then again, neither does any of the other characters. I think that's the biggest problem I have with this series so far...It helps pass the time and I am curious to learn more but I wouldn't be much upset if I didn't.

I am considering if I should continue this series or not.

Not a fan of this type of book with police procedures and stuff like that but I found I actually liked this one. It only focus on the part in the beginning and pretty much changes courses mid-book to focus on the paranormal side. The main character is interesting although a little scaredy cat and naive. Her partner and love interest is a demon and a police detective. A very cute and hot one. No wonder their romance was faster than a speeding bullet even ignoring she was supposed to have a boyfriend, Colin. Kind of a let down because it was too fast, there wasn't enough time to actually assimilate what was happening, you just kind of flew from one thing to the other. Then again, it was free, entertaining and a first instalment. I'm hoping the second will be better.

Very good writing, full of action and wit and such an interesting plot I'll even ignore the way too sudden romance between Santana and Auric. They are hot together though, very passionate and sweet. I wonder who her mother is...seems like it's going to be an important piece of the story. I absolutely loved Lucifer. I mean, I almost always love a complex character but I have a really soft spot for interesting ways of portraying the most infamous angel ever. I often enjoy seeing authors adopt a soft side for him or any of the fallen really. The whole black and white thing never made for much in my account. Grey areas are much better because they never fail to provide entertainment and leeway to overcome obstacles in a plot. Thankfully this book appears to have many, many grey areas. I specially like seeing Lucifer as a family man and Heaven as a bunch of lazy asses.

Can't find enough words to cuss at Chaz and Shia. Chaz for being such a manipulative jerk that even I couldn't see it in time. Shia for being so naive although I can't really blame her. Wow. Compared to the first book this is unnaturally much better. For one, it was bigger and more explicit on what was going on and why. There was also considerably more action and more twists to the plot. The characters were more easy to relate to and added a more realistic feel to all of it.
Overall it felt more whole and complete than the first.

Regarding the plot...I know all the sweet talking Royce is supposed to make me see him in a better light and actually consider the idea that he'll be a nice friend and possible love interest for Shia but all I could really think during their bond was: Get the f*ck out while you can! Run like hell! Kill him! I know, not very sporting of me considering he only did it to help her and he never reinforced the bond despite her wild pleas to do it when she was in pain but he really freaks me the hell out and I can't even imagine any romance brewing there. It's just so damn creeptacular! Ew.

Chaz kinda disappointed me there at the end when he left her alone with the vamps because he couldn't deal with her heated looks to Royce. I mean, it sucks. No pun intended. But wasn't her fault and it sure as hell wasn't on purpose or something she could stop. He did well however in dealing with the rest of the other crap. He stayed with her and tried very hard to keep her safe and actually acted like a real alpha wolf sometimes like I had hoped.

Arnold and Sara were mostly on the sidelines and although I missed them like crazy, I can't help but be grateful because Max was seriously psychotic and he would have made them in pieces without a second thought or glance.

As a finishing touch,Shia. Well. I can't help thinking she would have a more fulfilling life if she just cut ties to Royce and everything vampire-related. And John? She really did not see that one coming? I kinda did. He was the most obvious backstabbing bastard ever!
I'm considerably also intrigued by Dawn's conversation about elven touch in Shia. Seems there's something there...something I think Royce already knows and might actually explain his interest in Shia. I would like to think she'll pursue this venue but I think it flew right over her head honestly.

I actually liked it more than I initially thought I would. The main character is not the bad-ass heroine I most like to read but she's getting better I think. In the beginning she was kind of a sorry excuse of a female lead but she started owning up to her opinions and actually grew a backbone in the last 20 pages of the book. The names of the characters though are kind of idiotic. Sara seems to be the nicest and normal one. Shiarra? Arnold? Royce? Or wait..Chaz? Serious? What kind of name is Chaz for a werewolf?

Most werewolf and vampire traits are also somewhat diluted. As a vampire, Royce falls under the manipulative and sleazy slot at the beginning and changes to almost good guy at the end. Normally authors tend to choose one category for a character, good or bad, and tend to keep it throughout the story but in this case it was most confusing because I was always expecting for Royce to jump Shia and rip out her throat. He kisses her instead...talk about mixed signals.

Chaz is...something of a poor excuse for an alpha werewolf. Apart from the whole jealousy thing he showed temporarily when he first found out about Royce's contract, he's never seen trying to control his wolf urges or actually acting alpha. I've read a lot of books with alphas and they all seem to agree an alpha is somewhat controlling, jealous and overprotective of his female. Where was this? Not that I like the whole: "You are mine" thing they all have going but...like I said, poor excuse for an alpha. Chaz seemed more like a Beta than anything else. He also had no visible problem in following Shia's orders and put her in the line of fire, or claws or whatever. How many alpha wolves would willing accept that without fighting?

Arnold was small. Insignificant. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved his character! As a person he was cheeky, witty, smart and totally interesting. As a magi? Not so much. All he did was cast one or two small spells around and follow Shia's orders.

The bad guys were...disappointing. All the build-up and hate for Shia and Anastasia didn't like her because Royce was thinking about changing her? Seriously? Wow. Talk about idiotic.

Overall it was interesting enough for me to finish and actually want to keep reading the series. Hope some of the main troubles get figured out in the second one though.

This one was really exciting with tsunamis and tornadoes! I really liked Sierra but of course my favourite is still Lauren. I kinda hoped a more informed relationship between her and Devin. Not that I needed much more to love Devin, I don't. Or even Lauren, 'cause you know...my favourite. But I didn't really see much of a relationship of any kind between them before the sudden: Marry me. I guess I expected a long love or a sudden passion but I never got any sense of that. I barely even sensed friendship. It was kind of out of the blue for me.

And although I still loved everything...I really did, I think this will be my last book from this series. It's getting incredibly mushy and has way too many babies for my taste. I'll be getting my hands on the short about Lauren and Devin's wedding and that's it for me. Unless Lauren gets a baby..I think I'll come back just a little while for that.

Liked it almost as much as the first book...personally Eloire didn't do much for me as a main character. I liked Lauren a lot more and really relished her constant presence here. Also enjoyed seeing all the new and old characters. I simply love the Walker family!
