Review: The Vampire Next Door

You would think this story would be fairly easy to predict concerning all the romantic vamp books we see everyday but this one preferred a less used approach. Firstly, it's not based either in secrecy or acceptance like most books seem to prefer nowadays. Vamps do not live in secrecy next to humans. They are not known and accepted either. Instead they decided to show up, eat, kill or turn most humans and everything is going to hell. Governments have fallen. It's every man for himself. Pretty bleak if you ask me. But it's not all doom and gloom. Our main character, Kennedy, despite all evidence in contrary actually manages to find love. Slight problem: Reeve is a vampire and she's human. So the chances of him eating her? Pretty damn high. But he doesn't, he saves her instead from another vamp. Amazingly enough...he's actually sweet (and more human than most humans here) and they form a growing friendship that later evolves into something more. For me? Super cute to read. Laugh out loud situations. Mixture between The Walking Dead and Twilight I guess. Not for everyone's taste that's for sure!

Review: Embrace the Mystery

Very well written and I didn't even miss the previous two books. This certainly worked really well without them. The story stands on its own and is very complete. I did gag a little with the sweetness of this HEA. It was pretty and everything and I like HEA's very much but it was too much for me to completely enjoy, specially the part about her pregnancy...too much too soon. They went from bickering constantly to full understanding in two seconds flat. Too perfect to be believable and yes, I know it's quite ironic to be complaining about credibility in a fantasy novel but here I am. Complaining. Alas, it wasn't so bad. I quite enjoyed the rest of the novel. I was really surprised with the length of knowledge and actions this story possessed. I was expecting more fluff and sex. Although there was a lot of that too. The sex I mean.

Perfect, perfect ending and no, I did not see that final twist coming. Seriously. Not one hint. Very nicely done. Some crumbs along the way to give us a peek but never enough to draw conclusions. I was properly impressed with all the creativity and suspense. This final novel is definitely a must read for everyone who has followed this far into the series. You will not be disappointed.

Can't say I didn't freak out a little when the mark of Cain flared with Luc...luckily it's only activated with magic. Maybe they can work around that. Anyway I'm glad they're together. Adam is supposed to be all chivalrous but I think he's not only a dumb*ss but a dangerous one and she's better with Luc. He may be the Devil but he loves her while Adam seems to be quite unsure of his loyalties. Couldn't even break up with her...such a wuss.

I can't say I'm not slightly disappointed about this ending but not even that can stun me out of the awesomeness of this book for me. I honestly loved every single piece of it. So much better that I could've ever hoped for and trust me, I hoped a lot. Very beautifully written. Such an amazing view of Lucifer. I can't even manage enough anger about the ending and I simply loath to be deprived of an HEA. I can admit that I would've liked to know if he actually entered Heaven or was finally ended. I think he didn't even cared anymore and I can't really blame him. I cried. A lot even considering this was just a character and not a real person. But it was such a GOOD read. So nicely done. Totally connected with the characters, the story, the love and ultimately Lucifer's pain and sorrow of losing Gianna. Simply perfect. Brilliant.

For some reason I'm not entirely sure at the moment, I decided to read this book. Boy was I an idiot. Needless to say it wasn't even close to what I expected, again I repeat I have no idea what I was thinking when I got this. Or expecting for that matter. Basically Sydney gets kidnapped and raped by alliens. She's property and has no free will. She'll have sex and procreate with however and whatever "they" want. Anyway I read about half 'till I was so disgusted with this book and myself that I simply couldn't carry on. In fact, I am currently so nauseated that I have to go do something else to take my mind of this. Sorry.

So, you're telling me that in the end the Involuti preferred to take Tessa's power from her, leaving Charun free to go after other Goddesses instead of dealing with him? I'm sorry, are you serious? That was the most logical solution? To take the last smidge of power Tessa had instead of dealing with Charon? You know...the God that wants to kill a bunch of other Goddesses? Seriously? Wow. That was certainly a buzz kill. Really. Made me go from a four star rating to three and if Tessa and Cal hadn't been such a fun couple to know, I wouldn't even give the three stars. They certainly saved this book. Way too much sex though. And I like erotica as much as the next person. I simply think they didn't need to have sex every five minutes and no I am not exaggerating.

So the main character, Sydney, has a stalker ex-boyfriend and wants to forget about him and her other failed relationships by going to a club to find a one night stand. Meet Raimond. Unbelievable hot sex. Best orgasm of her life. She leaves and gives him a fake number. He manages to track her down and decides to punish her by cuffing and spanking her. AND SHE LIKES IT. SHE FINDS IT EXCITING. Because every woman with a brain gets excited by that with a man she met less than 24 hours. She lets him cuff her. CUFF HER. A total stranger. Oh and he grabs a scissor to cut off her top. He could very well kill her with no second thoughts but, hey, it turns her on. Is that exciting? I don't find it exciting. Then he makes her promise to never leave him again. Is that romantic? Personally I find it incredibly creepy and amazingly stupid on her part. Her ex-boyfriend hit her and stalked her and she lets a total stranger to have completely control over her? Are you dumb girl? Then, of course, to complete this amazing novel...her ex, John, tries to kill her two times. She finds out Raimond's a panther shifter but it doesn't matter because he saves her and so she admits falling in love. In, what, three/four days? Lovely. My dream come true.

Good story. Lightweight and simple. Not much dept or conflict, the usual fixtures in a romance novel, but enjoyable nonetheless. I think it's more towards erotica than romance anyway. Very witty, sexy and fun to read. Not too serious or complex. Perfect for a relaxed evening.

Review: First Date

First Date by Vanessa Wester

1st story is incredibly childish. I cringed away from the characters for the most part. Alice was incredibly insecure. Derek was probably just passing the time because he didn't make much of an effort either and Ben is the classic guy that only sees the best friend when she suddenly shows interest in another guy. Super clichéd.

2nd story was pretty disappointing. The premise was good and the story was actually pretty funny and interesting but ended too fast and felt unfinished.

And finally the 3rd story...Better than the first two. You actually get to know a little about the characters. The story wasn't very interesting for me though. It was much like a wind from the past. Something not really important for the future.

Overall? It was slightly entertaining but ultimately felt like a waste of time.

Not bad but not good either. Kind of weird. It's not gay erotica, not enough sex for that despite one of the characters supposedly needing sex to remain human. Not romance or paranormal 'cause you don't actually get much of either. I don't know. It seemed pretty pointless plot wise. Maybe a mystery? Who knows...Amazingly enough I actually liked Brian and Joe. I just didn't really see a point of those little nagging thoughts Joe seemed to have every few minutes about his sexuality and Brian not being human. Really out of the blue. It appeared as if the author wanted to take us deeper into Joe's emotions about homosexuality and his love for Brian but the book wasn't actually in that kind of spirit. Like trying to give this book two different directions and achieving neither successfully. Pretty disappointing.

Review: Storm Queen

Storm Queen by Marissa Dobson

Very well written. I had a couple issues with the way things were supposedly done between Stormkins but I guess that's normal in any introduction to a new "culture". I also didn't exactly understood speaking of Darkness in the premise as if he was this hugely important man in Kayla's life when he appears only briefly. Kind of misleading of his role in this book. Nevertheless I liked him. Of course my heart goes to Nightmare and Dreamer much more.
I also found the premise misleading in terms of general plot. In my view of things this book could've been a part of a more extended story. I don't really understand its use in the broad scheme of things. It feels like this book was complete with the double of pages and then the author decided to break it in half and only allowed us to read the first half. I reckon some kind of objective should have been established in the beginning and made it happen or not for the ending. This way it just feels unfinished.
