Review: Lion and the Falcon

Lion and the Falcon Lion and the Falcon by Eve Langlais
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I'm still not sure how a lion shifter managed to be such a p*ssy all the time. I mean, seriously, isn't it like an instinct to prove they're the biggest and baddest of the jungle? How did this shifter let himself get attacked twice and later kidnapped without even noticing anything beforehand? He never even fought. Not really. He just...let himself get knocked out and then waited for rescue. WTH. The most ridiculous lion shifter I've read about. Totally a mood killer. I didn't need an alpha shifter getting all overprotective and overbearing but a little side of b*lls would've been nice. Someone who actually carried his weight, you know. Wow.

Review: Grizzly Love

Grizzly Love Grizzly Love by Eve Langlais
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Very good. Don't know if it's a good ending to this series tho as I haven't followed it from the start and this book was indeed the only one I've read. I did like the story. Travis was a joy to read (if you ignore almost all of the Rawrs he has going) and, while I found Jess a little annoying at first, she did grew on me. Her husband really was an ass and totally deserved what he got. I still can't really understand the whole mate for life she had going on. You'd think his attitude would have more weight than something like tradition but okay, I guess. Travis mother freaked me out a little tho. I would not want her as my mother in law *shudder* but love conquers all and all that. Everything else kinda went over my head so I can't really comment but, overall, it was enjoyable and entertaining. Lots of action and sex. Ha. Whats not to like?

Review: Avion

Avion Avion by Eve Langlais
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I really, really liked it. The sex scenes were a little weird but I gotta say I wasn't even paying that much attention to them. And by weird I don't mean kinky or anything, more like weirdly described and timed. I did enjoy it tho. Lilith and Avion seemed like a good couple and I was rooting for them. Now, I am a little curious as to how the new enemy is going to be dealt with but that seems like it's going to be a part of another series so I'll have to wait. So this...was a good ending. Kind of an open one but with enough closure to satisfy for now.

Hell's Geek Hell's Geek by Eve Langlais
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Was I really the only one seeing something icky with that kiss? 'Cause I found it so damn obvious it actually pained me when Lucifer fell for it. I thought him better. Seriously. Apart from that depressing event...Dex and Valaska were incredibly awesome together and I loved their story. Really well done. (Please hurry up and bring Lucy back!)

Hell's Kitty Hell's Kitty by Eve Langlais
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The action in this novel was better and I really liked the development regarding the over-reaching arc, however, Felipe was kind of meh. I really liked his personality but his fears also kind of reeked of cowardice and I like my MC's more fearsome than fearing.

Review: A Demon and Her Scot

A Demon and Her Scot A Demon and Her Scot by Eve Langlais
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked the previous ones better but this was entertaining nevertheless. I did find it a little simplistic and short. Plus I didn't much care for The Scot. But their relationship was intriguing and fun to read about and so I enjoyed it.

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

A little freaky. Not something I would have thought of, ever, but it seemed to work. More or less. Still a little unclear on how exactly God, Angels and Demons fit into the wizard world tho. Also weird between Sam and Dean. Not something I'd have imagined either. Fun to read but definitely strange overall.

Review: Ember

Ember Ember by Bettie Sharpe
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I didn't care for it all that much. I liked the premise but the execution wasn't to my taste. The story is neither good or bad. Just meh. Average. If you're going to make Prince Charming an asshole then make him a charming asshole instead of a deceiving one full of half truths. If you're going to make Cinderella into a wicked witch than truly make her wicked. This half and half did not work for me. And I don't like lies so I'm never as forgiving as most romance characters are. Sorry.

Review: Blackveil

Blackveil Blackveil by Kristen Britain
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Well, this book sucked. First, we get a deathbed marriage between Zachary and Ellora. Then, Ellora is crowned queen and decides to suspend Mapstone as Captain of the Riders (supposedly for her own good). Thirdly, Ellora has sex with Zachary even though he's incredibly hurt and delirious. And, after finding out he loves Karigan, she wishes Karigan never returns. These "people" are backstabbing idiots. They fall in and out of love at the blink of an eye. They betray each other for no good reason. No loyalty. No nothing. Congratulations. You managed to make me hate every single human in this book apart from Karigan, Yates and Lynx. Even Alton and Estral depressingly acted like assholes. WTF was wrong with these people?? Did everyone suddenly went crazy? I'm writing this as I'm reading the book and it's possible my opinion will change according to the end but, as of right now, I really do hate pretty much everyone. Ellora is such a huge disappointment as a Queen. She'll probably end up redeeming herself in some way later on but I cannot get past the fact she agreed to marry Zachary as he lay unconscious and even bedded him while he was still recuperating. I can't even...I want them all to burn. That's how pissed I am. And Amberhill's adventures better be worth something because he started out strong, if a little misguided, but now he's just boring. I honestly couldn't have cared less if he was on a ship or a mule. I DON'T CARE but please do kill Yates. He's not one of my favorites or anything.

F*ck. I'm fuming. I've just finished and I don't even want to keep reading this series. I'm depressed.

* 1.5 ★ - because I hate everything and everyone right now.
** I really really loved Yates.
*** Also sorry for rambling.

Review: The High King's Tomb

The High King's Tomb The High King's Tomb by Kristen Britain
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I like this series a lot but the amount of reading I have to do just to see these characters accomplish something annoys me to no end. While I absolutely love the bare bones of the story, the writing is so convoluted at times I barely care unless someone is getting attacked. And by someone I mean Karigan because I don't even notice the other characters all that much. Not even King Zachary. I spent most of the 600 pages of this book hoping bad things happened to Karigan just so I could feel something besides frustration. It worked of course but it's no way to keep reading this series. The pace is truly grueling and, was it not for my love of Karigan, I would have given up right after the 1st book. The other characters do not help overmuch. King Zachary seemed interesting initially but has been loosing points with me so fast it's not even funny. Captain Mapstone likewise. Fergal was so irritating I thought of drowning him every other page. Alton bumped his head and became an idiot. Only character I seem to love more and more is Fastion. I don't even know what was up with Lord Amber-something. The "Raven Mask". Jesus. I would find it hilarious tho if he fell in love with Karigan. That would be so perfectly amusing.
Anyway, I do hope things get better soon. My interest has been waning and, unless something changes, I'll eventually tire of this writing and give up.

Review: First Rider's Call

First Rider's Call First Rider's Call by Kristen Britain
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Unbelievably long but definitely entertaining. I did find myself incredibly bored with certain events though. I don't know if the world-building tires me out or something but Karigan does make it interesting enough to keep going. I am, however, not happy with her romantic confusions. They are incredibly distracting and, while usually I'd love to read about them, it was not the case in this book. The romance slowed the pace down even more and I really, really wanted things to go faster. Way faster. I also saw both twists coming (the marriage and Karigan's lineage) and so they both fell flat to me. I was expecting a little more bang at the end. I was disappointed.

I liked this a lot which was a nice surprise. The world is a little confusing, there's not enough info to get a clear idea of what's happening and the romance was a little too rushed for my taste but I enjoyed reading it a lot. Ultimately a good story in need of some more development and depth.

Review: Stone Embrace: A Stone Guardian After-Scene

Stone Embrace: A Stone Guardian After-Scene Stone Embrace: A Stone Guardian After-Scene by Danielle Monsch
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Two sex scenes between Larissa and Terak should've made me pretty happy right? Unfortunately the whole macho thing between Jack and Terak cooled my spirits right from the start and not even the sex scenes could bring my excitement back. Also not into Terak acting all aggressive towards Larissa even if it was sexually and she liked it a lot. Really not my thing.

Review: Stone Guardian

Stone Guardian Stone Guardian by Danielle Monsch
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

1st Read on May 22, 2015

Surprisingly good. After DNF'ing a book due to its boredom I was kind of fearful picking up a book almost 400 pages long but, alas, it was worth it and my fear was unfounded. The book is incredibly entertaining and, while I wasn't amazed, I was definitely captivated. The world-building was fascinating and I loved the new take on PNR species. It was a real treat to learn everything about this New Realm. The romance angle was also well explored. The couple seemed very good together and, while both were aware of the difficulties towards staying together, none of them had the used-up brilliant idea of sacrificing themselves for the others happiness. They stayed together through it all, except for a little incident, and it was awesome and refreshing.

*Unfortunately none of the couples portrayed in the sequels seem to interest me so I won't be following this series until such couple appears. If not, I'm happy enough with this one.

3.5 ★

** After a second reading I wasn't as amazed by the world here but it's still very good. I liked Terak even more now tho. Unfortunately I still feel no desire to read the other books.

Review: Happy Hour at Casa Dracula

Happy Hour at Casa Dracula Happy Hour at Casa Dracula by Marta Acosta
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

It was somewhat funny. I probably didn't find it as funny as the author hoped but it was enjoyable enough, I guess. I also admit to have expected it to be a little less chick-lit and a lot more UF. I found myself bored of Milagros voice often and even her sexual encounter with Ian was less thrilling than I wanted it to be. I mean, a man/vampire oozing sex could be a little more impressive right? Also, most of the romantic confusion banded about in this book would have been solved by a simple conversation and it was honestly ridiculous to read all the misinterpreted comments and stupid guesses. Now, I'm going to pretend this was a stand-alone and be satisfied by the end.

Review: Fool Moon

Fool Moon Fool Moon by Jim Butcher
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A huge hero complex. That's Harry Dresden's problem. He wants to save everyone, even the bad guys. It's annoying. I honestly hope the next book is better because so far I'm curious but not impressed. This story is basically a copy of the 1st one too. There's a murder, Karrin calls him and he gets entangled with it all and ends up escaping multiple assassination attempts. Even Marcone was involved again. It was all annoyingly predictable and, while Harry keeps saying knowledge and preparation are the most important weapons a wizard can have, he seems to forget it all the time. He plays things by the seat of his pants. He doesn't plan anything really and gets into the most ridiculous situations tired and without magic. Ugh. I expected so much better.

Review: Anna and the Vampire Prince

Anna and the Vampire Prince Anna and the Vampire Prince by Jeanne C. Stein
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Oh how I missed Anna. Unfortunately this was only a short and not nearly enough for me to stop missing this series but it sure helped. So, this happens right after Anna's mom dies and she's still in France when Trish's best friend gets kidnapped. She and Vlad go to the rescue and obviously get the girl back alive and well. Pretty straightforward and fast. Then the vamps Anna asked Vlad to forgive in the last book come back to haunt her. Also pretty simple and quickly solved. What actually shocked me was Vlad and Anna. Anna and Vlad. How did I not notice he had a crush on her? Seriously? How did I miss that?? And I gotta say I like him way too much too. The whole forever thing even made sense for me. Jesus. I'm a sucker for a bad guy. Sorry Frey.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked it better than I thought and yet still managed to feel a little disenchanted. Does that even make sense?

So, like I said above, I liked it. A lot even. I've been meaning to read this for ages and, while I'm slightly disappointed by the main character (I somehow always imagined he'd be stronger or more bad-ass), I still loved the world-building and the story. But I guess the hype around it gave me a lot of expectations and...well, Harry Dresden didn't really get there in just this book. Maybe the next one?
