Review: The Nymphos of Rocky Flats

This book was entertaining enough for me to finish but that's about it. I mean the main character, Felix Gomez, left for war in Iraq and returned a vampire. Now, he makes his living as a private detective and receives a case about a nymphomania outbreak in a military compound. Yes, it's as ridiculous as it sounds. And, initially, I was drawn to this book precisely because of this. I found the premise hilarious. Unfortunately the delivery falls short. The descriptions were vague, there's a lot of telling instead of showing and I never really warmed up to Felix. I don't expect my vampires to be strong all the time but...Felix is a poor excuse for a vampire. His attitude sucked (sorry) and he was a bore to read. So, overall, I didn't hate it but I don't plan to keep reading the series either.

Review: Green Rider

Amazingly enough I read this in a day. And I say amazingly not because it's long, even though it is, but mostly because there's a lot going on in one moment and then it's over and the descriptions start boring me like crazy. So it had a weird pace for me...Run, run, fight for your life. Stop. Look at the trees. Amazing trees. So green and beautiful. Oh look! Another tree. Even more beautiful. Oh my god, it's an ambush. How did this happen? Really? You were unprotected, distracted and complaining most of the time. What, exactly, were you expecting? Anyway, I do have to admit our heroine wasn't that bad most of the time. She did manage to get there more or less whole, with the damn message and without me wanting to strangle her too much. Overall, I consider it a big success.

Review: The Passionate Queen

Well, I didn't like this story as much as I liked the 1st one but I enjoyed it anyway. Wonderland was still very much alive, crazy and exciting and I loved going back. The romance was thrilling and, while Lena didn't strike me as hard as Caly did, Ragoth was indeed a great combination of aggression and gentleness. I definitely relished reading about them and their journey and I'm happy about their HEA. They deserved it.

So, I wrote this review and GR ate it and my memory sucks so...here goes nothing. My main complaint, if it can be called that, is Meg not being present when the Controller was finally killed, the compound destroyed and the other blood prophets saved. (Please don't tell me he somehow survived, I don't think I can take it.). I always kind of thought she'd be there for his fall and I was a little disappointed she wasn't. Apart from that though, I liked it. Couldn't put it down. Kept thinking the world was going to end while I wasn't looking. That compelling and good.

Review: Kill the Dead

I didn't like it as much as the first book. While James continues to be my favorite character here, I didn't much care for some of his actions. Amazingly enough, Lucifer is not the main issue I have with James. I kind of like Lucifer. My main issue is that he never plans anything. At first I kind of liked it but now that he's been upside for some time, I kind of expected him to grow up a little. Then again, maybe that's the main draw of his character, he's crazy powerful, one of the most powerful beings in existence and he's still a drunk kid with a but-load of issues and guns. He's traumatized. He's crazy. Damn, I like him a lot. The book did drag a little. Way too long to get to the big picture. Kinski's death also feels kind of early and a waste unless he somehow shows up later in the series and James gets closure. Otherwise I don't really understand his presence in the first place. Otherwise, despite some bumps and twists, this is a solid read and a good follow up book.

Review: Antigoddess

I don't know what to think of this... I only like maybe half the characters but the concept is so good and weird I can't put it down and not read it. I was a little upset by Apollo's death tho. Not exactly sorry as I didn't like him or Cassandra that much but the way it happened. It was absurd and anti-climatic for me, much like Hera's defeat. I was thinking epic and then got some half-assed fight gladiator style between Athena and Hera while everyone else stood back to watch. If Cassandra's sudden powers were supposed to impress me...meh. Did I mention I didn't like her? Yeah. Apollo and her were definitely a good match.

Review: Atlas

Surprisingly satisfactory. I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this and after a couple minutes, I wasn't exactly impressed but couldn't put it down either. The writing is...not exactly my style and the main character, Kala, was a bit of a letdown. I simply couldn't understand her mood swings. Tough military woman one moment. Emotionally damaged orphan the next. Even manipulative sex kitten when Asmodeus was around. It got old pretty fast. The concept was good though. Greek mythology is always welcome. I had some mixed feelings about the angels and demons but it mixed well and I ended up enjoying it.
