Not perfect but made me happy. I really enjoyed it and, unlike other novels, the main character didn't make me want to chuck the book across the room so...yeah. It's good. I found myself laughing with Ryder and Jason, getting sad when they did and definitely getting pissed off by Ryder's mom just like them. I wouldn't have minded a little more of everything and the HEA seemed too good to be true but it was happy and I liked it anyway. Only complain I actually have were the grammar mistakes and such. It wasn't bad but noticeable enough to interrupt the flow.

Review: The Given & The Taken

Not sure what to think of this. Honestly? After a while I wanted Levi and Darius together and to hell with Ian and his brooding self which is weird because he was the point of the whole story from the start. I mean, the whole "running" thing was just absurd. I realize it was necessary for Levi and Darius to know each other and fall in love but from my point of view reading about Ian fleeing in the back of trucks, cold and all alone, was boring, irritating and pretty much useless. Then the three of them get together, have sex and Levi has to leave again to save them all. Of course everything goes badly and Selena dies so they can live. My thoughts on that? A little more planning would've done wonders for them and I was not impressed with anything but the sex scenes and only those between Darius and Levi. Ian is just...meh. He does nothing for me. I couldn't connect with him at all and simply don't understand what either Darius or Levi see in him. I admit I'm curious to know more because nothing actually was solved in this book but probably not enough to actually bother reading the next book. Sorry.

I actually liked the first half of the book more than the last half. I liked the action and the romantic conflicts. When "everything" was somewhat settled between them romantically, I kinda lost interest. Their relationship made no sense. I don't know why they liked each other. I don't know why they thought they were perfect for each other. Then again, I couldn't connect with either character to actually care so...I didn't even care for the sex. That's how bad this was for me. Only part remotely interesting for me was the stuff directly related to the Spirit or whatever. Even that was poorly done and definitely not enough to carry the story tho.

Apart from how everything is all so well achieved and easy this book was actually quite captivating. I didn't much care for either Vaska or Serge but I did like Niko a lot so I put up with them and I can't I wasn't rewarded afterwards. Don't get me wrong, I still don't much care for either of them but they did okay by Niko I guess. Most important however were the other wolves present here. I liked reading about Vadim and Sasha again. I liked meeting Siro. I even liked Ana and her brother. They were all very exciting to meet. And I liked the overall plot. I hope we get to know the endgame soon enough.

Review: Heart Song

Huh. This was actually one of the best books I've read by this author. Well color me surprised. I was instantly drawn to it soon as I read the blurb but, hey, not the first book I've been excited about and been disappointed afterwards so I wasn't all that hopeful. Glad to be wrong this time around. I actually liked the characters. The world-building wasn't very complete but it was interesting and captivating and the mystery regarding the assassination attempts gripped me 'till the very end. I gotta say Aunt Sarah wasn't that much of a surprise but still good to read about. Overall, I liked it. The writing was better and I can tell the story was worked on and improved. Some effort was definitely made.

Not bad. Certainly better than most of this author's other books, even though I never did particularly like Graham. Just too stupid to live romantically and professionally. I mean, seriously? That's how a cop handles things? Thank god I've never needed them then 'cause I'd be pretty screwed if Graham and his friends are accurate examples of law enforcers anywhere. Jeezus. How dumb could they get? And the whole conflict between Darren and Graham wasn't any better. How old is Graham anyway? I hope not older than 25 because the way he acted? Way below teenage level. I did like the mystery and most of the support characters. Also the writing wasn't as bad as usual. Guess that's all you can hope.

'Bout the same as all her other books. Good and bad. World-building is pretty much non-existent, character growth is the same and plot? What plot? I did like the characters, mostly, and I did like the mystery about their situation. Of course that mystery lasted about five seconds but still...it was enjoyable while it did. But, seriously, the plot. Where was it? In fact, how can someone who was abused/raped/tortured for six weeks trust two strange men in less than a day? How can he let himself be approached by them? Let alone sexually? I don't get it. I like a happy ending about as much as anyone else but insta-love and insta-trust do not work for me. In fact, they pretty much detract from the relationship. How can you value a relationship based simply on lust/fate or whatever? They didn't struggle to get together at all. All their supposed hardships were solved almost instantly. How can you connect with characters who have everything just handed to them by fate? You can't.

I get the whole "loving the man" and not just the alpha but was it really necessary for Iben to turn into a girl after mating Zack? I mean, I get that he doesn't want to be alpha with his mate but the giggling was kind of obnoxious coming from the most powerful alpha seen in years. He turned from a guy always striving for control for a giggling girl wanting to be cuddled. Not that there's anything wrong with that but it's kind of hard to accept such a turn around. Creepy too. Looks like he was traded for another guy entirely. Apart from that, it wasn't bad per se. It was actually quite interesting to read for these kind of books and I've definitely read worse.

What is wrong with a little plot Ms. Hagen? What is wrong with a little world-building? Some slowly developed romance? Some character growth? Mind telling me that, Ms. Hagen? You must have something very against all of that because it's practically non-existent in this book. It's rushed, simplistic and so very ugh...Johnny is weird. Hawk is weird. Their circumstances were weird. Did anyone actually bother to proofread it? Or did you just dump a bunch of words together and called it a novel? No offence but that's what it looks like. If Johnny's circumstances were supposed to make me pity him, you failed. They were unfortunate but I couldn't connect with Johnny enough for it to bother me much. Hawk seemed..."nice" enough I guess but, again, nothing. Other characters? I don't even remember most of their names. Their world? Beats me, I know about as much now as when I started the book. The sex scenes? Lackluster and even a little creepy considering Johnny's background.

Honestly? I got nothing from this book and I want my two hours back.

So...the main plot. I have no real idea what it was. This is a third book and I didn't bother with the first two so I was a little lost reading this. I assumed I would be able to understand it naturally with no problems. I assumed wrong. There was a lot I couldn't understand and a lot I didn't even try because it was just too damn hard and with every chapter I realized it wasn't even worth it either. The romance was crappy. I'm aware they knew each other for some time but it was totally out of the blue and way too easy for my taste. Not too mention how irritating Tibo and Sal were together. Tibo acted like a simpering fool who was afraid of his own shadow and Sal like an entitled prick with thoughts of greatness. I didn't like either of them. They could've died a thousand times for all I cared. Same with all the other characters. Basically? This was just freaky and a waste of my time. Only reason I give this a two star rating is because I did manage to finish without wanting to kill them all.

Perhaps some more explanations were in order. A little more floundering. Just more...of everything. It was all done so easily it wasn't even funny.

Rushed, clichéd and anti-climatic which is actually quite hard to achieve when one of your main characters is an assassin, which was also the only reason why I even picked this book up in the first place. I am actually amazed how one can make an assassin look boring. Seriously. Anyway it was done and I was not particularly happy with this development. Took quite the enjoyment out of this story for me and made it look all ordinary and crappy. Ugh. I did "like" the main plot behind the idiotic romance. I had previously read the first book and, while about as poorly written as this one, it did awoke my curiosity about the direction of the main plot and ultimately led me to reading this book. Not sure if happy or not about doing so though...so I'm not sure if I'll bother keeping an eye out for more books. Certainly doesn't feel worthy right now. Too much inconsistency for me.

Well, the sex scenes were exciting and the characters weren't obnoxious or creepy so I had fun. Was it great or memorable? Not even close. There was a lot that wasn't explained, some things I didn't like and others I didn't even care about but, ultimately, it was enjoyable and interesting and I don't regret reading it even if I'm not exactly repeating it any time soon either.

Enjoyable but could've been better. What I noticed most was how simplistic it turned out to be even when talking about serious matters. There's abuse, rape, humiliation and captivity and I think it would've had more impact with more explanations and a slower build of Skye's recuperation and relationship with both Dru and Thom. The way it was presented...it seemed like it wasn't such a traumatic event which it was. I also think the final "conflict" between them wasn't necessary. If the author had focused her attention on all the undercurrent feelings of all three and how difficult everything was for Skye just to think much less do...the overall impact of the book would've been greater and definitely more emotional. This way, while promising, it didn't really deliver.

Review: Karma

Did I like it? Yes I did. Did I think it was a good ending? No, I don't. It pissed me off to no end because it came out of the blue and left me hanging.

Overall it was good. The main character irritated me a lot but it wasn't insufferable so I kept going. The plot was interesting and the world-building seemed more mysterious than incomplete so I went along with it too. Fate is obnoxious and the main character's reaction to him made me despise her but...again, I went along with it because the plot was good enough to carry my interest. Then the end rolls around without a single warning point and now I'm not sure what to think of it all. I hate that she was made to stay. I hate that she managed to only think of herself at the most stupid times and I hate that she slept with Fate in the first place. Cupid or no. But most of all, I hate that she's as ignorant as ever because of herself and not because she's a transfer or because no one wanted to help her. She did it to herself and I was never much of a fan to begin with. Not sure if worth it to keep going. Not sure if the plot and world-building will be enough next time.

Review: The Witch With No Name

Almost 2 a.m and yes, I'm still up. Way past my bedtime on a weekday but I sure as hell wasn't going to give up this book right when it was finishing up my favorite story for the last couple years. Just..no way. So I kept reading even after my eyes weren't so focused, after I yawned every five minutes and after I nodded off a couple times too. I am tired as all hell but IT WAS WORTH IT. All hail Kim Harrison. Seriously. Do it.

This book was action-packed, romance-filled and just plain...perfect. And by this, I don't mean to say it was all rose colored. It wasn't. There were bad moments when all seemed lost. When I thought Rachel or Ivy or Trent or Jenks was going to die. When I thought the demons were. When I actually found myself wishing they didn't even after spending more than half this series hating them. When I seriously wanted to kill Cormel and the elves and to hell with Rachel always trying to save everyone. When I found myself crying for Newt, that crazy demon turned goddess. But, amazingly enough, it all blended well at the end. I have no idea what happened to Landon or Cormell. I don't care. I sincerely hope they died alone in some forgotten place but after seeing the rest I just couldn't care less.

Wasn't I shocked when suddenly 27 years had passed? When I read about wrinkles and white hairs? I was. I don't regret it but it truly drove home the end of this series for me and it hurt. I'm happy because it wrapped all my doubts and fears and booted them out of existence but, at the same time, it showed me it was over and done. I will miss everyone like crazy. I already started missing them and it ended just ten minutes ago.

Review: The Undead Pool

Hm. Yeah. That's how coherent I am after reading this book and, boy, did I try to make it last. So, let's go with the bare facts shall we?

Character growth is amazing in this book for about everyone: Ivy, Jenks, Nina, Trent and Rachel and probably a few other supporting characters I wasn't so attentive about. Ceri's death is still very raw and palpable and watching Al turn his back on Rachel became even harder to stomach even though I knew it was coming all along. Actually put a huge damper on Rachel and Trent's romantic relationship which I was rooting for for about forever. But this book isn't all about romance, even tho there was lots of it with both main couples (Ivy/Nina and Rachel/Trent), it's also very centred in Rachel saving the world. Again. And no offence to the world...but I think it should either thank her or find a way to save itself because this was actually getting old and fast in this book. I seriously started to wonder mid-book how in the hell people didn't kill themselves off before Rachel was born.

The whole mystics thing? Creepy but also fun. I had a blast "hearing" them in her mind. Wicked. The goddess? Much like demons when they first showed up in this series. Not sure what her role was all about and I didn't care for her either so, while I understood her, I also wanted her gone ASAP. Sorry.

Now the demons, the elves and Trent's problems with them all...I feel a headache coming.
It was 8 to 80 in less than 5 seconds and I loved it all even what I didn't love. Weird, right? Nope, that's exactly what you get with these novels and I'm gonna miss them like crazy.

Review: The Broken Road

Sweet and romantic but also overly long and complicated. There was absolutely no need for this story to be told in so many pages. Absolutely no need for me to read so many chapters about their younger years, then some more about puberty, then their 20's...I felt like a lot of this was just to fill some pre-established word count and just plain unnecessary. Also made the story incredibly ansgty for no good reason. The thing with Brian and Lee? Another aspect that didn't do much for the plot because Brian died and after an enourmous amount of angst West ended up confessing he had never felt as good with Brian as he did with Ardie so why putting him in the story at all? So we could see Ardie whining about it? And Lee? Another unnecessary aspect I suspect is only present for shock like Brian. So basically...a more simplistic plot would've been greatly appreciated. This just made my head hurt.

Review: Ever After

I'm too tired to actually have any coherent thoughts about this book because I slept way too little to finish it, so here it goes:

What I liked:

* Jax returning home;
* Nick getting caught and becoming Newt's familiar;
* Al getting drunk and
* The Hunt.

What I didn't like:

* How Ku'Sox dies (way too easy if he is indeed dead);
* Ceri's death;
* Nick still being alive;
* All the demons acting so cowardly;
* Trent letting Ellasbeth take the kids and
* How long it took to Trent and Quen to release Rachel from the slave rings (no matter what was the cost, they should've given them to her the first time she asked).

Did I enjoy it even if apparently what I didn't like out-weights the good? You betcha. This book is so very well written and has such a great finish you can't help but love it and I do. Great work.
