I thought it was a short-story but it actually turned out to be quite longer than expected. I am glad of that fact though because it worked well into giving the readers a more detailed view of the two main characters and their romance. Also, the information about each “being” and their history was detailed and interesting and the same could be said about the surroundings and the action taking place. It made for an interesting story, no doubt.

Review: Immortal Coil

Oh boy. I haven't been so enamoured with a new world in quite some time. It's new, captivating, violent and just plain fantastic and the characters pretty much follow the same high standard. Hunter and Anaea are so damn brave and intriguing. I just loved their interactions even when they were fighting each other. I do so look forward for the next book. If it's as good as this one, I'm definitely reading it. I'm also incredibly intrigued to learn more about Grey, Capri and everyone else. They seemed fascinating.

I think the author wrote this book intending to deliver a perfect ending to this trilogy. It failed. There were a number of inconsistencies and faults and unaddressed issues like Nala and Trent's situation. Or the overall improbability of a HEA of a mortal female with an abusive dark god. Oh he wasn't physical per se in his abuse but mentally? Yeah, now there's another story. I get that he wasn't exactly himself most of that time but...he was unnaturally cruel even when he was himself. The idea that she fell in love with him in the first place is appalling to say the least. On s bright note though...this was the end so I don't have to read another word.

I had read one of the previous books of this author about Lucifer and pretty much annoyed myself with it and never bothered to pick up the next one. This book, I got for free somewhere and so decided to give it a chance. It's somewhat better written. It feels more thought out and captivating. I still do find many of the previous faults still present though.

Review: Dead Spots

Dead Spots by Melissa F. Olson

Overall...it was enjoyable but somewhat boring. The characters all acted as if reading from a script. All very comfortable and predictable. The writing was good but not great and I was disappointed to see so many holes in the plot. Also everyone seemed to know more than the main character about her own kind and it was pretty irritating.

I also wanna put in record that Olivia showing up in the end didn't surprise me at all. It was so damn obvious it wasn't even funny. What wasn't obvious was how suddenly Scarlett turned Ariadne into a human. That did blew my mind. Blew Scarlett's mind too because she doesn't know crap about herself. She seems to fear her own shadow. A little disgusting... Again Dashiel's reaction was expected. In fact, his reactions to pretty much everything were expected. He didn't surprise me one bit throughout the entire book. Same with the wolves and witches. Every single one of them cares more about themselves than the people around them. The only ones who seemed to stray a little from this pattern were Scarlett, Eli and Jesse. Kirsten also helped in the end, although I'm guessing it was more due to friendship to Scarlett than actual care for the situation.

I'm known to have a somewhat romantic image of vampires, werewolves and other creatures. Why? I'm guessing I always think after being alive for so many years they should be a little better than regular humans. I'm always hoping under all that predator side there are actually human emotions waiting to be seen by those most confided in. Idk. Maybe I'm expecting too much. Whatever the reason, it was disappointing seeing all these supposedly superior creatures act like toddlers with dolls. I would like to say I was then amazed by the moral shown by the main character but nope. She seems to be very much confused in her role in her own life and it reflects in her actions. Also, apparently, she can't exactly trust anyone. Dashiel's trick about her brother was pretty low. It seems he should've remembered his own advice to Scarlett that people tend to kill those they don't understand or fear. Anyway..I'm still considering reading or not the next novel.

Review: The Renfield Syndrome

It was so messed up and weird and I just loved it! Rhiannon grows on me more and more right along with Goose and Paine. I can't say the same about Gabriel because he only showed up briefly and it wasn't exactly good although I did miss him a smidge. Apart from that...I felt Rhiannon was way out of her element about 99.9% of the time and yet she prevailed. It was awesome. I so want to keep reading this series!

This was surprisingly good and I was totally sidetracked with the ending. Bam! Try again next time. I was reading Rhiannon making the deal with the demon and thinking: "Don't do it. You're gonna regret it. Say no." and she goes, says "yes" and gets sent 101 years into the future. What did I tell ya? So now she has to find Gabriel 101 years after they met, pray he's still very much alive or, you know, not dead-dead and deliver a message. I'm also suspicious she's not gonna be sent back to her time right after delivering said message. What a clusterf*ck.

There I was hoping everything was going to be fine...after all she had almost died killing a powerful vamp. Nope. No rest for the wicked and boy was Rhiannon wicked! Can't wait for the next one!

*P.S. The writing is good and insightful and Rhiannon is witty, strong and oh so fun to know.

Review: Tempt the Stars

I seriously considered start screaming when that curse hit Pritkin. I mean, come on! Was that really necessary? I thought my heart would give out. I really freaked. Really. And then the epilogue came around and I took a breath. A very long breath.

This book was amazing. It's one of my favourites even though there is not enough Pritkin. There is however a whole book about him, about how to get him back and how to keep him, about all Cassie is willing to do to save him and just how much she wants to.

Then there's a small trip back in time to speak with a Goddess, who I might add should have been a little more kind to her daughter and less of an idiot to the Demon Council, although I am glad to see her more human, with flaws just like everyone else, instead of a perfect woman with insurmountable power.

I should probably say I missed Mircea but..I didn't. Not really. I had noticed how controlling he was becoming in previous books and how he always tried to redirect Cassie's attention away every time she asked a pertinent question and I really didn't like it or miss it. I hope Cassie does realize this soon and puts a stop to it before it's too late.

Unlike others I didn't have a problem with the action scenes either. They were pretty complex though and I do understand where they could become overwhelming and confusing. The novel is packed with action to the brim and in Cassie's style, one action scene is right after the other with no breathing stops to even out.
Also even though I thought the book was spectacular (kind of obvious no?) I did notice the main story arc wasn't much touched. The development was mainly in the personal aspect of the main character and no advance in the war with Tony or the Gods was done.

Overall reaction? I miss some people and think some things should have been mentioned or addressed but I don't much care because I loved it. Every single moment. Even the one with the curse because apparently Pritkin needs to have his soul cursed for Cassie to realize she loves him. *rolls her eyes in frustration*
I am also incredibly anxious and curious for the next novel. I really want to see Cassie save Pritkin while dealing with his father's companionship. What can I say? The demon has his moments.
