Review: An American Werewolf in Hoboken

An American Werewolf in Hoboken An American Werewolf in Hoboken by Dakota Cassidy
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this book. I expected something a little more weird or crappy but it was a good weird. Ended up laughing a lot and it was a good story for sh*ts and giggles. Not too serious. Light. The clichés were bearable and I liked both main characters, especially Fluffly. He didn't take himself too seriously and I appreciated that about him. I also understood JC's breakdown and her decision to get the hell out of dodge. An actual normal reaction. That sh*t right there is rare. Rare. So...not bad. At all.

Review: Beauty and the Feast

Beauty and the Feast Beauty and the Feast by Julia Barrett
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Meh. Rushed romance and I didn't bond with the couple. The only part I actually liked was the cat fight. I also didn't much care for Gabe.

Review: Peyton 313

Peyton 313 Peyton 313 by Donna McDonald
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Kind of having ambivalent feelings for this novel. I was entertained but not much else. I don't think there was a good enough blend between the main arc and the romance. I was definitely curious about the first but didn't really care for the second. I liked both Peyton and Kira but wasn't convinced of them as a couple. I didn't detect much feeling between them and, having previously read many novels about cyborgs and humans falling in love, I know for a fact it can be done. I simply didn't feel it here. But the main arc...so much potential and details. I liked it a lot. Although I did get frustrated with not having anyone to blame beyond UCN. People, I mean. Norton was this big bad company trying to pretty much take over the world. Okay. But they didn't have a face 'till Chancellors Li and Owen were presented and I struggled with it a lot. Blaming a faceless enemy is hard and distracting. I also expected some big movement from them to stop Kira and there wasn't. The few fights were handled pretty fast and well. All the hype pretty much for no reason. Again, frustrating, I almost felt like there was no climax. A civilized conversation in the end does not count.

Review: Body Games

Body Games Body Games by Jessica Clare
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked this. Damn. I'm proud of Anabelle. This is still one of those books I'll probably forget about in a month or two. Rushed, oversimplified and full of cheesy lines and cheesy romance. But Annabelle's revenge on Kip? Oh how sweet. I liked how she stayed true to herself even after falling for Jendan. I kept suspecting she was going to end up throwing everything away and let Jendan go to the final but nope. Pleasantly surprised I gotta say. Her initial portrayal of naive and gullible did not sit well with me.

Review: Ice Games

Ice Games Ice Games by Jessica Clare
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Amazingly enough I liked this story better than the 1st. It wasn't as predictable and I really liked Ty. He was the definition of a big teddy bear and, while Zara annoyed me pretty badly sometimes, they did work well together. They also didn't rush anything. They waited 'till the very end of the competition to hook up and that made all the difference for me. Of course it still felt rushed but less so and I enjoyed it a little more.

Review: Wicked Games

A more exciting finale. That was my expectation. The overall plot was okay but amazingly predictable. Everything was predictable actually. Dean and Abby's romance. The betrayal of their allies. Abby thinking Dean was using her. Her revenge. Their happy ending. I wasn't surprised by a single thing and, while it didn't make the book necessarily bad, it didn't make it very thrilling either. I was even hoping for a pregnancy to spice things up and I never EVER hope for a pregnancy.

Review: Celeb Crush

Celeb Crush Celeb Crush by Nicole Christie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I liked Andi a lot. Her murderous thoughts were so attuned to mine I actually thought I'd somehow projected it into her character. Luke, on the other hand, never did much for me. Maybe because Andi's so loud you kinda forget about him. Maybe because there's a lot of talk of how hot he is but not that much about his personality. I don't know but, the truth is, I never noticed him much. I mean, he's the other main character and pretty much all Andi talks about but Andi's voice is so strong he ends up fading into the background and...that was actually ok. Amazingly enough I read this book solely for Andi. After reading a couple chapters I honestly thought I was going to end up getting frustrated with her and start hating her. It didn't happen. Not a single time. She and I have a lot in common personality-wise. I am often inconsiderate. I'm called a crazy bitch at least once a week. I hate socializing and I'll leave in the middle of a conversation if you piss me off. But I'm also a f*cking loyal bitch. I will defend a friend in just about anything. Unlike Andi, I didn't have a bad childhood. Or I can't really claim I did because I was never abused and my parents weren't murdered either. They're still very much alive and happy (or so they claim). The happy part. Not the other. Anyway when I was getting into my teens...my father cheated on my mother with a work colleague. He got caught with her in his car about to have sex. Not the first time either. Everyone knew but my mom. She ended up dragging the woman out of the car by her hair and punched my father. Lucky shot. They came home yelling at each other. I was home alone. I don't know how it started but when it's over my mom is on the ground with a bruise in one arm and my father is sporting a bite mark in another. He slept on the couch that week. They stopped talking to each other. More than 5 years would be my guess. The silence was horrible. They never divorced and lived completely separate lives while still sleeping in the same bed. F*cked up right? Doesn't really matter. The past and all that. My point being that being a teenager in that kind of environment wasn't exactly healthy. Formative years they call it. I don't do relationships. Hell, I don't think I even do proper friendships. And I can hide a world of hurt behind a nice smile or a show of anger. It's not even remotely healthy but that's my way. So I understood Andi and saw a lot of myself in her. Her insecurities. Her fears. Her trust issues. Luckily there was Nate. Comic relief. And a good one too. I actually ended up liking him better than Luke. I still don't understand why he liked Andi. So sue me.

Review: Tangling with the Tiger

Tangling with the Tiger Tangling with the Tiger by Vivi Andrews
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love bad boys. Tall, dark and handsome. But I'm not one to keep pining for a bad guy if he's genuinely a bad guy. I'm the voice of reason behind the heroine telling her to get the hell out before it's too late, telling her he can't be fixed and he's only hurting her. I'm THAT girl. But Dominec? He pushed all of my buttons. Crazy. Unstable. Violent. Definitely a bad guy and yet...he was never violent with her. The One. The ultimate romance. And instead of being all alpha male hell bent in putting her in a golden cage to protect her, he shadows her everywhere instead. Stalking her. Keeping her safe. And logically I shouldn't find this even remotely understandable much less attractive but I do. Because despite all that stalking he never once corners her. He never once makes her feel suffocated or persecuted or controlled because that is never his intent and he never does try to control her. He simply wants to be there when she needs him. F*ck. That's...dysfunctional. But so damn sweet too. So I liked him. I cheered him on. I even applauded his ingeniousness when he managed to get his revenge on the human hostages without actually dirtying his hands. And I hurt for him whenever he remembered his murdered son. So maybe this romance wasn't the most conventional or healthy I've seen. I still loved it and the actions parts were weirdly perfect. Very well written.

Review: Huntsman

Huntsman Huntsman by Viola Grace

Not bad. Still short and everything happens very fast but there were months crammed in there and they waited a long time to come together so it was almost like a normal relationship. If, you know, you're an alien with a mental connection to your lover and helped him survive a virus treatment for six months.

Cute and they had a previous bond so it didn't feel as rushed as all the others. I also liked them together. They worked well as a team.
